.. and intelligence is just one facet of understanding. Thinking can not existing independently of embodied experience, which is more truly expressed through our feelings. This was one of the insights of Carl Jung. It is backed up by neuroscience. Thinking occurs within the neocortex, which evolved recently and depends on the much older brain stem. Our brain connections are formed within each of us as we grow and move. Our very bodies are the basis of connecting with reality. Thinking – intelligence – is completely dependent on this embodiment. This is why it has been found that AI models crumble if they start looking at each other. Even a small portion of AI generated material destroys AI. Thinking gets lost when it is disconnected from reality.
Consider the analogy of a tree. What we see is above ground, the branches and leaves, but these can’t exist without roots.
AI is intelligent, but that’s all it is. Without our embodied experience it is disconnected from reality. It is simply rootless and unrooted trees die.
