We are always inside a process of ending and beginning, but spend spend much time clinging on to the past. I do anyway. I have a realisation. I am in my 60’s and my wife and I have been dreading the thought of retirement and what comes afterward. We couldn’t agree on where to go and how to live. Anyway, we then saw some wonderful places – none quite right but it gave us something to look forward to. That has changed the whole process, so that now it’s exciting and full of possibility. All from that change from looking back to looking forward.
Why then not look forward to our final death. A release out of loneliness and insecurity which are the ever present compass of this life. I believe there is beauty and joy and that I will be the part of all that is once again. Something to look forward to..
Wordsworth said it better !
“Our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting:
The soul that rises with us, our life’s star,
Hath had elsewhere its setting,
And cometh from afar;
Not in entire forgetfulness,
And not in utter nakedness,
But trailing clouds of glory do we come
From God, who is our home.”
